INTISAAR Well-being Workshop
INTISAAR participated and ran a wellbeing workshop in partnership with Somali Forum and Brent Health Matters.
The blog bellow is written by Manal Hashi and is a reflection of the event.
Today I attended an amazing and well conducted Brent event, jam packed with activities from mental health talks to health checks organised by NHS professionals. In addition to the routine activities there were also various organisations that attended and set up stools to showcase their work and aims for the community. One of those organisations was our very own INTISAAR. Our goal was to raise the question “What does wellbeing mean to you?” We fortunately received a wide range of answers which was then written and displayed. This exercise helped people express their feelings on how they maintain their
well-being. As this exercise was relatively anonymous, people felt free and did not have to restrain themselves for fear of judgment. The question successfully reached people of all ages giving us a copious range of answers. During the event, people from other organisations and members of the community came round to our stand to talk to us about what we do. Some feedback we received included: “You’re are definitely asking the right questions, this is good for a community of which mental health and wellbeing isn’t always a top priority”.
Half way through the event, a catering company served delicious traditional Somali food allowing the community to all share and enjoy a taste of the culture. The entire event was remarkably useful especially for those looking for guidance in how to take care of themselves both physically and mentally.
